About the materials
Our wool is sourced locally from small independent farmers, one sheep at a time to choose the best textures for our mantles, to support the region's responsible agriculture industry and preserve genetic diversity. In the naturally colored fleeces, you can see the effects of this care in the color variations. While the sheep graze on pasture grass, the sun naturally bleaches the wool to unique shades unavailable in synthetic furs.
The majority of our pelts are felted (pfelts?) from Heritage Breed sheep including Leicester Longwools, Shetlands, Jacobs, Karakuls, and others.
Interested in something specific? Ask about custom orders.
Depending on the breed, some fleeces only yield 1-2 large mantles or stoles annually. If you've seen a piece you love, we can look for a similar fleece for a custom order, but availability will depend on how that year's wool crop at the farm went. Even from the same sheep, a fleece may vary somewhat in color and texture from year to year. Black fleeces in particular are very scarce, but darker grey and brown ones are more readily available.
